North Carolina Forbids LGBT Protection, Romer v. Evans, and the Future
By 1992 a number of cities in the State of Colorado (notably Denver and Boulder) had enacted ordinances that prohibited discrimination based on sexual orientation. This was at a time when gay rights was only just beginning to gain acceptance in the populace at large, and the backlash in Colorado to these ordinances was swift. In 1992 the voters passed an amendment to the Colorado Constitution that stated: No Protected Status Based on Homosexual, Lesbian or Bisexual Orientation . Neither the State of Colorado, through any of its branches or departments, nor any of its agencies, political subdivisions, municipalities or school districts, shall enact, adopt or enforce any statute, regulation, ordinance or policy whereby homosexual, lesbian or bisexual orientation, conduct, practices or relationships shall constitute or otherwise be the basis of or entitle any person or class of persons to have or claim any minority status, quota preferences, protected status or c...
